Prof. Narendra Bhandari to grace the program

Hello!

Here’s a report on the 24th TAS Program.

Today was a special program for disable girls at Apang Manav Mandal (Disable home).

As usual, we were accorded a warm welcome by the girl students and the authorities excitedly awaiting the program. Some girls couldn’t walk, some could crow only and some were with hand stands. All gathered at lawn on back side of the building.

We arranged the telescope and at first explained them all at once that when they will see through the telescope, the star like object will show phase like our Moon. They didn’t believe till they saw. We tried to help them reaching the eye-piece. Today it took little longer for two reasons; one we had to help nearly every student and other they were more than 175 of them.

The poster display was set up for the students to explore the mysteries of the solar system at their own pace. And we watched them peruse the information and discuss the same with their friends.

During the interactive session that followed, nearly all the slides fascinated them all. In the beginning they were hesitant to answer my questions as, this type of science interactive session was for the first time for them. But with the time they started interacting with me and cheerfully saw the slides of solar system. The photos attached have captured their moods.

Questions like – how hot the sun is? Or Who was the first one to go to the moon?’ created some interesting debates. Some exceptionally bright students like Trupti Vaza of 11th standard from Arts stream answered my questions with amazing clarity and was awarded 1st prize at the end of the presentation. Both, the authority and students, were especially keen to have us come again to give them a deeper understanding.

The golden moment of the program came when, suddenly Prof. Narendra Bhandari a brain behind Indian Lunar Missions to moon appeared in the hall. He received warm welcome from all and he blessed them all with few words.

We acknowledge the gracious support of the following people in making this program a success: Prof Narandra Bhandari, Rohiniben as host, Jigar Darji & Ravi for set up and Urvi Vyas for photo documentation. We thank them all for their interest.
