Hello!
Here a report on the 5th TAS Municipal School Program.
Today though it was a public holiday, the municipal school at Dariakhan Ghummat, Shahibaug area gave us a warm welcome. Students were waiting for us well before we reached the school. All the teachers and the principal were very receptive. Being in a predominantly Muslim area, predictably, the number of students on this Mohram day (a day celebrated by Muslims) were fewer than the normal but the bonus was that those who attended were truly the ones who were interested & curious enough to give up a few hours of their holiday!
The program started with Lunar observation. They were particularly amazed to see the craters on the moon. During the interactive session that followed, the beautiful photographs of the solar system slide fascinated them all. Another wonderful thing that gave us tremendous satisfaction is that the teachers too got into the spirit of things and participated wholeheartedly in the question – answer sessions that interspersed the presentation! Especially, Jigishaben Panchal and Kokilaben Rajput. Questions like – ‘Why Pluto is not considered a planet now? Why the moon looks pale at the horizon? etc.’ created some interesting debates. The teachers were especially keen to have us come again to give them a deeper understanding.
A few parents also came and showed an interest in the subject.
We acknowledge the gracious support of the following people in making this program a success: Jigar Darji & Stephen Samuel who helped Rajesh Nath in every way. As well as a few local volunteers drummed up Rajesh Nath. We thank them all for their interest.
